Audi BTR 4.2 TDI engine
In 2003, the Audi A8 D3 debuted a 4.0-liter V-8 diesel engine. Its main difference was the chain drive timing and intake manifold with swirl flaps. However, this engine was produced only two years and gave way to an updated 4.2-liter engine. In addition to increasing the working volume, the manufacturer modernized the problematic chain timing, installed a new Common Rail Bosch fuel system with piezo injectors and other turbines.

Disadvantages, breakdowns and problems of the BTR

  • This is a very reliable diesel and problems with it only occur at high mileage
  • Modern fuel system with piezo injectors cannot tolerate left over fuel
  • If you pour anything into the tank, you will soon face repairs costing up to 500,000 rubles
  • Saving on lubrication here greatly reduces the life of turbines and hydrocompensators
  • After 200 – 250 thousand km may require replacement of the timing chain, which is very expensive.
