Faults and problems

This engine appeared relatively recently, and full-fledged statistics of its breakdowns have not yet been collected. However, based on the owners’ feedback and first observations, several characteristic problems can be identified:

  1. Wiring harness and gasoline pump: Some owners of EP6FADTXD engines have replaced the wiring harness and gasoline pump under warranty. This may indicate minor wiring or pump problems in early series engines.
  2. Timing chain: Due to the aggressive operation of the Start-Stop system, the chain may be stretched out by as early as 100,000 kilometers. This requires attention and possibly a chain replacement if the engine is to be operated in such modes.
  3. Intake valve fouling: The direct fuel injection system in the EP6FADTXD can cause fouling on the intake valves. This is because the fuel does not wash the valves as it does with piston injection. As a consequence, the valves quickly become overgrown with carbon deposits, which can lead to poor engine performance.
  4. Electrical problems: All other problems are mainly electrical faults, which can be corrected by re-flashing the ECU. This is a common cause of malfunctions that can be easily resolved by authorized dealers.

Since the EP6FADTXD engine has become popular relatively recently, owners should closely monitor its condition in the first years of operation in order to eliminate possible defects in time.
