Design and repair of the engine Mercedes M271 E16 1.6
The younger variant of four-cylinder engines, produced from 2008 to 2011. The M271 E16 engine was developed on the basis of the M271 E18 cylinder block, where the corresponding short-stroke crankshaft was installed (stroke was reduced to 75.6 mm, vs. 85 mm at 1.8 liters). The cylinder head is similar to the one used on the older engine, fuel injection is distributed. Engine management system Siemens SIM4 LKE.
The engine was produced for only three years, after which it was replaced by a younger representative of the new family called M270 DE16 AL/M274 DE16 AL.
Modifications of M271 E16 engines
- M271.910 (2008 – 2010) – the first version with an output of 156 hp at 5200 rpm, 230 Nm of torque at 3000 rpm, compression ratio 10. It was installed on Mercedes-Benz C 180 Kompressor BlueEFFICIENCY W204.
- M271.911 (2009 – 2011) – compression ratio 10, power 129 hp at 5000 rpm, torque 220 Nm at 2500 rpm. Installed in Mercedes-Benz CLC 160 Kompressor BlueEFFICIENCY CL203.
Problems and disadvantages of Mercedes M271 E16 engines
- The most famous problem of the dvs is the hang-up of exhaust valves due to fouling.
- In second place is unreliable timing chain, which can stretch up to 100,000 km.
- Followed by frequent lubricant leaks from the oil filter housing or heat exchanger.
- The crankcase gas ventilation system becomes so dirty that the tubes burst.
- Fuel getting into the oil is considered to be a signature fault of EVO series motors.
Mercedes M271 engine tuning
Chip tuning
To increase the power of the 1.6-liter M271, you need to replace the compressor pulley, put a low-impedance filter and sporty firmware. These modifications allow you to raise the power by about 30-40 hp. To squeeze even more from 1.6 liters is not worth the money and effort, it is easier to buy a more powerful Mercedes.
